Gary L. Price was welcomed home to heaven Saturday morning at the Hinkle Hospice House in Davidson County. Gary had been sick with lung cancer. He faced this trial with high constant wry humor and endless faith.
Gary was a member of the Southern Gospel group, Righteous Harmony, along with his wife, Janet. His constant dedication to spreading the Gospel through song, despite his illness, became a source of inspiration to anyone who heard the group and him sing. He was also a deacon and dedicated member of Near Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. Gary was born in Madison, W.Va. He was a man dedicated to hard work and devoted himself to whatever he was doing in order to set a good example and provide for his family. He was a jack of all trades, specializing in carpentry and was a master craftsman. He was most proud of the work he did with his hands. Most recently before his illness, he worked as a District Manager for the Dispatch in Lexington, NC,
Gary, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather leaves behind a wife of forty-seven years, Janet. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tressie Price; his father, James “Jimmy” Price; and brother, Shelby “Doc” Price. He leaves two sisters, Evelyn and Louise. He also leaves three children, Tamela, Gary, and Mark and his wife, Suzie; ten grandchildren, Courteney, Chessnie, Hayden, Molly, Maggie, Maddy, Chloe, Claire, Kian, and Kaevan; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Eliana Gari, all of whom love him and will miss him terribly.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Near Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
There will be no public visitation.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Davidson County, Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
