Gary Franklin Smith, 74, of Trinity went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 02, 2021, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ with the Rev. William Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.


The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 2 pm prior to the service in the Church Parlor.

Mr. Smith was born in Davidson County on May 5, 1947 to Edmund Franklin Smith and Mary Parks Smith. He was retired from Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth, having been the CFO and was a member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ. Mr. Smith was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather whose memory will be cherished forevermore. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Barbara Sappington Smith of the home; two sons, Ryan Smith and Aaron Smith both of Trinity; a brother, Keith Smith (Cheryl) of Lexington; a sister, Patricia Corry (Don) of Lexington; three brothers-in-law, Larry Sappington (Heather), Jerry Sappington all of Liberty, and Terry Sappington of Elkhart, IN; a sister-in-law, Beverly Sappington; three grandchildren, Gitana Smith, Brianna Smith, and Aurora Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project at P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
