Gary Alan Thomas, 64, of McLeansville, North Carolina, formerly of Altavista, Virginia, passed away on Friday, May 9th, at High Rock Lake after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Altavista, Virginia, Gary was a man whose love for life, music, and family touched everyone who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty Ann Walthall Thomas and Clement Thomas, and his brother Barry Thomas.
Gary leaves behind the love of his life, wife, Amber; his children Lorie, Nick, Clemarie, and Mark; and his cherished grandson Andrew. He is also survived by his siblings Kim Madsen (Bent), Wendy Gilliatt (Scott), and Kelly Thomas; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews who adored their “Uncle Gary” and will carry his memory with them always.
Gary was a dedicated employee at Piedmont Wholesale for many years, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and warm personality. His commitment to his work and the relationships he built there were a source of pride throughout his life.
Known for his magnetic presence and musical soul, Gary could light up any room with his guitar, his voice, and his infectious laughter. He shared his gift of music freely, always ready with a song or a story. He found great joy in spending time on the family farm in Altavista, fishing on the lake or at the coast, and simply being with the people he loved the most.
Gary was a man of faith who loved Christ and found strength and community in his church. His kindness, humility, and deep love for others were rooted in that faith.
Gary’s greatest pride was his family. His love for them was unconditional and unwavering. He will be remembered for his generous heart and his sense of humor. He leaves an empty space in the lives of all he impacted in his short life. He will be missed beyond measure.
A celebration of life is forthcoming.
