Gary Thompson

Gary Lee Thompson, 81 of Lexington passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice house after a brief illness. Born on June 28, 1943, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was the son of the late Johnnie A. Thompson and Marie Everhart Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Belinda Ann Sink Thompson.

Surviving to cherish his memory are daughters Ginger Thompson, Kim Thompson Smith and granddaughter Madison Smith. He is also survived by a brother Randy Thompson (Donna), nephew Matt Thompson (Sarah) and other special extended family and friends.

Gary graduated from Lexington Senior High School and attended Lees-McRae College. He retired from Proctor & Schwartz after working there for more than 40 years. Gary had a passion for cars and the racetrack. In his younger years, he enjoyed building and racing cars with the Sports Car Club of America. Some of his favorite tracks were Virginia International Raceway and Charlotte Motor Speedway. He loved a good party, music and dancing. He also enjoyed fishing at the coast with his brother, as well as attending UNC Tarheels games. Gary's greatest joy, love and pride was being a Grandpa to his granddaughter Madison.

The family will have a Celebration of Life to honor him at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trellis Supportive Care in Winston Salem.
