Gary Monroe Wilkins 72 of Winston-Salem passed away Friday afternoon at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House after declining health of one year. A Funeral service to celebrate his life will be 2:30 p.m. Monday June 13, 2011 at Faith Missionary Alliance Church where he was a member, conducted by Revs. Michael Gates and Albert Smith. Burial with military graveside rites will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the church.
Gary was born August 26, 1938 in Winston-Salem to Arthur McKindley Wilkins and Mary Avery Leadford Wilkins. He retired from the parts department of Regal Ford, was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed at Ft. Bragg and Korea. He was a loyal UNC basketball fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Carl Lee Wilkins.
Surviving Gary are; his wife Dorothy Williard Wilkins with whom he just celebrated 50 years of marriage; one son and daughter-in-law Jeffery M. Wilkins and Kathy of Summerfield; two grandsons Ben & Josh ; brothers Robert Wilkins (Pat) of Lexington, and Johnny Wilkins (Barbara) of Kernersville; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many special friends.
