Gaynelle Yarboro Travis, 52, of South Highway 150, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center, following a one year illness. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Higher Ground Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Pastor Vardis Rains and Charles Brady officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Travis was born February 10, 1957, in Davidson County, to Walt Howard Yarboro and Mary Lee Knotts Yarboro. She was a founding member of her church. She also taught Sunday school for the 6-8 grade class; was the music director and a member of the Ladies Group at her church. She was a very talented and gifted singer and songwriter, which led to three album recordings and a music ministry where people gathered to hear her. They were always blessed with hope through music. She was preceded in death by her father. Surviving are her husband, Mackie Woodrow Travis of the home; sons, Jonathan Travis and wife, Melissa, of Houston, Texas, and Matthew Travis and wife, Teresa, of Linwood; her mother of Linwood; seven grandchildren, Elijah, Jada, Corbin, Isaac, Jonah, Cayden, and Enoch; brothers, Walton Yarboro of Linwood and Tim Yarboro and wife, Lee, of Lexington; and sisters, Rosalie Groce and husband, Carroll, of Greer, S.C., Becky Michael of Linwood, Joyce Honeycutt of Lexington, and Alice Coleman and husband, Earl, of Thomasville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home on Highway 150. Memorials may be made to Higher Ground Baptist Church Building Fund, 1351 Lamb Road, Lexington, NC 27295.
