Gene Tuney Jarrett

Gene Tuney Jarrett, 82, of East U.S. Highway 64, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Darrell Sluder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mr. Jarrett was born March 23, 1930, in Davidson County, to Charles Dowey Jarrett and Ethel Hughes Jarrett Pierce. He was the retired owner operator of Gene Jarrett and Son Lumber Company, and retired Assistant Chief of Holly Grove Fire Department. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Jarrett; brothers, C.J. Jarrett, Carson Jarrett, and Wade Jarrett; and his stepfather, Gurney Pierce. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy Myers Jarrett, of the home; daughter, Kathy Jarrett Mabry and husband Franklin of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Linda Jarrett of Lexington; grandchildren, Brent Jarrett and special friend, Roxanna, Greg Jarrett and wife, Shannon, Kim Nanney and husband Scott, Tracey Whitley and husband Brad; great-grandchildren, Trevor Nanney, Kyle Nanney, Andrew Whitley, Megan Whitley, Jason Shull, Ryan Shull, Jacob Jarrett, Ashlyn Jarrett, Brandon Jarrett, Oceana Jarrett, and Dakota Monday; and sisters, Charlotte Sparks and husband Bobby, and Odessa Sexton, all of Thomasville. Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor UCC New Building Fund or the Church Cemetery Fund, 1002 East Holly Grove Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
