George Lee Allen

George Lee Allen, age 89, of East Holly Grove Road, Lexington passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 4:00pm Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, with Rev. Darrell Sluder officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 3:00 until 4:00 pm Thursday prior to the service. George was born in Davidson County, October 10, 1922 to Henry Boyd Allen and Myrtle Coppley Allen. He was a former employee of Myers Auto Parts and Lexington self Storage. He was a member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ; a veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II. He was a life member of VFW Post 3074, American Legion Post 8 and Amvets Post 13. George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Everhart Allen on April 7, 2011; his son, Joel Keith Allen on Jan 11, 1997; his brothers, Hoyt Allen and Harold Allen; a sister, Mildred Allen. George is survived by one sister, Hilda Mae Floyd of Lexington; brothers, Boyd Allen and wife Mittie of Lexington, Charlie Allen and wife Tina of Virginia; several nieces and nephews; caregivers Peggy and Leon Garner of Lexington.
