George Washington Beeker

George Washington Beeker, 87, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Lexington Health Care.

A funeral service will be held 4 pm Wednesday, September 22 at Jersey Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Heitman and Richard Wright officiating. Due to COVID, the family requests that everyone in attendance wears masks. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Beeker will lie in state for one hour prior to the service, and the family will receive friends following the committal in the multi service room.

George was born February 7, 1934, in Rowan County to Willie Joseph Beeker and Clara Idella Berrier Beeker. He was a member of Jersey Baptist Church where he was also a deacon and Sunday school teacher. George retired from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy and Chief Jailer. He had many great accomplishments, including the Melvin Jones Fellow of Dedicated Humanitarian Services award of the Lions Club International Foundation, Lion of the Year, and the Harold Harrison Award. George was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Rev. Melvin Beeker, Charlie Beeker, and Giles Beeker; four sisters, Willie Veigh Plummer, Clara Harkey, Edna Coppley Coates, and Ann Edgison; and one grandson, Joshua Beeker.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Ann Kinney Beeker of the home; one son, George Michael “Mike” Beeker (Robin) of Sanford; one daughter, Judy Wimmer (Gerald) of Welcome; three grandchildren, Joy Dalrymple (William), Makel Wimmer (Reagan), and Charley Wimmer (Brooke); and eight great-grandchildren, Lily, Brant, Luke, Colten, Emery, Joshua, George Michael, and Trip.
