George Samuel Elliott

George Samuel Elliott, 86, of River Drive, Linwood died Wednesday at his home after an illness of 6 months. A funeral service will be Sunday October 28, 2012 at 4:00 PM at Rolling Heights Faith Baptist Church where he was a member with Rev. Wayne Sechrest officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Rolling Heights Faith Baptist Church fellowship hall. Mr. Elliott was born in Rowan County, on September 9, 1926, to Samuel Elliott and Nannie Kate Lipe Elliott. He retired from Central Motor Lines and served in the US Navy during WWII and was a member of the choir at Rolling Heights Faith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Evelyn Almond Elliott, his first wife, Mamie Atkins Elliott to whom he was married for 43 years and his second wife, Martha Clement Elliott whom he was married for 11 years; and sisters, Ruth Byerly and Jonsie Chun. Surviving are his son, Bobby Lumsden and wife Lois of Lexington, daughters, Vickie Dwiggins and husband Richard and Pamela Barnhill and husband Rev. Craig Barnhill of Linwood, grandchildren, J. H. Koontz and husband Linn, great granddaughters, Tiffany Grubbs and husband Wayne and Brittany Peele and husband Timothy, brothers, P. W. Elliott of Linwood, John Elliott and wife Nancy of Linwood, Gene Elliott and wife Linda of Lake Norman, Rev. Leroy Elliott and wife Louise of Silver Valley and Everette Elliott and wife, Kaye of Lexington, sisters, Mary Elliott Bost and husband Kenneth, Elsie Elliott Burnette and husband Dennis, Eva Mae Elliott Everhart and husband Calvin, Doris Elliott Morrison and husband Wayne, Nancy Elliott Wargo and husband Jim all of Lexington and Margie Elliott Church of Darlington, SC. Memorials may be directed to Rolling Heights Faith Baptist Church, 228 Pineland Avenue, Lexington, NC 27292
