George Frank Barney

Mr. George Frank Barney, 94, of Arvil Hunt Road, died Thursday, April 30, 2026, at his home.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Chapel in Lexington. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Barney was born on July 22, 1931, in Davie County, to the late James Frank and Nottie Grace Allen Barney.

He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Betty Leonard Barney, for over 60 years. He was a very hard worker and retired from the furniture industry. Mr. Barney was very well liked in his community and circle. He enjoyed raising gardens and did so for many years. Most of all, he enjoyed camping with his grandchildren and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Uriah Stewart; and five siblings, Lucille Lampley, Melvin Barney, Lillian Boone, Marie Beck, and Elsie Myers.

Survivors include his two children, Rita Greene (Johnny) and Dean Barney (Donna); three grandchildren, Amy Stwart (Todd), Andrew Barney (Valerie), and Anna York (Matt); six great-grandchildren, Jett Stewart, Grayson Stewart, Colton Barney, Elise Barney, Lilly York, and Clara York; and one great-great-grandchild, Johanna Stewart.
