It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Henry Hunt on September 15, 2025, in Salisbury, NC. Born on July 16, 1939, in Davidson County, NC, George lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jimmie Jean (Ingram) Hunt, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. His legacy continues through his children, John Blease Hunt (Janet), Brian Hunt (Charlene), and Brad Hunt (Brenda). He was preceded in death by his parents Ethel (Younts) Hunt, George Hoyle Hunt and his daughter-in-law, Katrina Hunt.
He was a loving and devoted grandfather to Jacob Hunt (Kyoko, D), Jeanine (Noel Caldwell), Samantha Hunt, Brianna (Devin Jones), Julianna (Davon Wilkins), and Jessica (Kevin Brown). His memory will forever be treasured by his great-grandchildren, Brody, Ellie, Stella, DJ, Reese, and Dahlia. He leaves behind many friends who will cherish the many stories he shared, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him: including his furbabies Sophie and Penny.
George's life was one of unwavering service. He proudly served his country for 26-1/2 years as a U.S. Marine, including two combat tours to Vietnam in 1965 and 1970. During his Marine career, he attended numerous schools and was honored to become a Drill Instructor at Paris Island, SC. He retired as a Sergeant Major. Following his military career, he dedicated 31 years to the Davidson County Sheriff's Department, where he served as a Deputy and retired as a Lieutenant.
George found joy in his community involvement. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge 473 in Lexington, the VFW Post, Amvets 13 in Lexington, Beaufort Amvets Post 70, Scottish Rite in Winston-Salem, York Rite in Salisbury, Oasis Shriners Club, and the Rowan Shriners Club.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington with a funeral service being held at 2pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at First Methodist Church in Lexington. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Davidson County Animal Shelter, 490 Glendale Road, Lexington, NC 27292 or to First Methodist Church, 310 S. Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
