Georgianna Hayes Niven

January 31, 1927 — November 1, 2017

Georgianna Hayes Niven, 90, of Piedmont Crossing, died Wednesday, November 01, at Hinkle Hospice House.   A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Jamie Armstrong.  Mrs. Niven requested her cremains be scattered in the Memorial Grove at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.   The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm before the service.   Mrs. Niven was born January 31, 1927 in Catawba County to George Everette Hayes and Emma Hamrick Hayes.  She was a graduate of Hickory High School, Greensboro College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She retired from Davidson County Schools as a media specialist.  She had also been an assistant librarian for Western Carolina University and worked at Hyconeechee Regional Library in Roxboro,  Statesville Public Library, and Lexington City Schools.  She was a life member of UNC –CH Alumni Association, a member of Beta Phi Mu and charter member of Epsilon Chapter at UNC –CH, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; and a Trustee and Docent of the Davidson County Historical Museum.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church and preceded in death by her husband, William Niven and a sister, Helen Hayes Mitchell.    She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Niven Crowell and husband, Frank, of Lewisville; her son, Kenneth E Niven and wife, Patty, of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Autumn Stallings of Dallas, Texas, Christopher Niven of Plano, Texas, Ryan Niven of Charleston, SC, Kathryn Crowell of Houston TX  and Samuel Crowell of Charlotte; and 2 great grandchildren.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 310 S. Main Street, Lexington NC 27292 or Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 to the donor’s choice.    Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.    Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
