Gerald Wayne Whitfield

Gerald Wayne "Whit III" Whitfield, 65, of Old Greensboro Road, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Thomasville Medical Center. A celebration of life and memory service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Mr. Whitfield was born in Durham County on March 12, 1942, to Paul Loma Whitfield and Magaline Weaver Whitfield. He was a retired electrical engineer working with Burlington Industries and Hanes Hosiery. He was a graduate of the 1971 class of North Carolina State University with a BSEE degree in electrical engineering. He attended Longhurst Baptist Church in Greensboro and was a former volunteer fireman in Marietta, S.C. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Don Hon Richard aircraft carrier. He is survived by his beloved family, daughter Adriane Paige "Little" Whitfield of Boone; brothers, Paul L. Whitfield of Charlotte and Robert E. Whitfield of Hillsborough.
