Geraldine "Gerry" Redding Johnson

March 20, 1921 — January 17, 2017

Geraldine Redding “Gerry” Johnson, age 95 of West Fourth Avenue, Lexington passed away Tuesday night, January 17, 2017 at Hinkle Hospice House. A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 21, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Revs. Jamie Armstrong and Doug Rowe officiating. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Gerry was born in Stokes County, NC to Roy Sylvester Redding and Minnie Flora Hartgrove Redding. She was a graduate of ASU and active in NCAE and retired teacher having taught 32 years with the last 25 at Lexington Senior High School, where she received Lexington’s Teacher of the Year Award in 1977. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she volunteered many hours; was a member of the United Methodist Women, former Superintendent of Sunday School, served on the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees, the Altar Guild and the Pastor Parrish Committee. She was awarded the Laity Service Award in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank Wilson Johnson in 1974; her son, Ronnie Johnson in 1997 and a brothers, Nolan Redding and Clyde Redding; sister, Elverne Redding Crisp. Gerry is survived by her daughter, Jan Johnson of Boone, NC; grandsons, Erik Redding Johnson and wife Laura of Winter Springs, FL and Brian Franklin Johnson of Orlando, FL; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Cooper; daughter-in-law, Nancy Johnson of Winter Springs, FL; sister-in-law, Carolyn Redding of King, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to First United Methodist Church, 310 South Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292 or charity of your choice.
