Gernie Badgett

November 11, 1916 — September 20, 2014

On Saturday, September 20, 2014, Gernie Lee Badgett, went to be with his loving heavenly family. Throughout his life, Gernie worked very hard maintaining a large farm, first tobacco in Dobson, then livestock in Churchland. Later in life, when he was unable to carry on the strenuous duties of keeping up a farm, he often looked for something else to do. We, his girls, said his main job was loving us, which he did till the day he died. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 24 at Pine Primitive Baptist Church, by Elder David Anderson. Burial will follow at Fisher River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home. Mr. Badgett was born November 11, 1916 in Surry County to Robert Badgett and Emma Marion Badgett. He served as an Elder at Pine Primitive Baptist Church, where he also served on the cemetery committee. His wife, Ultra Snider Badgett, preceded him in death, as well as a step-son, John Robert Sowers, and a step-daughter, Annie Sowers Freeman, also his brothers, Lonnie Badgett, Willie Badgett; his first wife, Pearl Branch Badgett; and three sisters, Mamie Badgett, Grace Whitaker and Lela Atkins. He is survived by his step-daughters, Nancy Wells (Robert J.), Phyllis Sowers, and Neplus Hall (Ken), all of Churchland; his sister, Hallie White of Dobson; Annie’s husband, L.A. Freeman Jr. of Lexington; twelve step grandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren; and loving niece and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to Pine Primitive Baptist Church, 7419 S. NC Hwy 150, Lexington NC 27292 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC 27292.
