Gilbert “Gib” Dale Parlier, 83, of Lexington, died Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at Wesley Heights United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Richard Blount officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the home.
Mr. Parlier was born in Atkins, Virginia on March 21, 1931, to Charles Spurgeon Parlier and Nannie Lee Johnson Parlier. On August 5, 2000, he married Jean Hamilton Athay. Gib proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was active at his church serving in many ways and was always ready to help in any way. Gib came to Lexington in the 1950’s and worked at Dixie Furniture and then retired from PPG Industries. Later he worked on the custodial staff of Central Davidson Middle School until his second retirement in 1999. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Charles S. Parlier Jr.; sisters, Lucy Muriel “Jack” Owen, Mary Reba Smith and Jean Russell; and sister-in-law, Dorothe Parlier.
Surviving are his loving wife Jean of the home; children, Randy Parlier of New York City, Beth P. Milleson and husband Bryan of Advance, NC, Lee Athay and wife Theresa, Marcia A. Myers and husband Charles, and Webb Athay and wife Barbara, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Nathan Myers, Miranda Athay, Danielle Athay, Taylor Milleson, Billy Joe Athay, Nathan Milleson, Melinda Athay, Halleigh Milleson; and brother, James “Jay” Parlier of Nicks Creek, Va.
