Gilbert Ray Thompson, 87, a resident of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022 in Alston Brook Nursing and Rehab. He was born in Saginaw, TX to the late Brooks Gilbert and Vesta Hattie Murry Thompson. Gilbert was quite the entrepreneur, and owned several businesses, including two service stations. He was a veteran of the US Army, where he proudly served his country, and was an upstanding hardworking man who loved and took care of his family. Gilbert was a selfless individual who was generous with his time and was a help to others. He attended Christian Baptist Church in Churchland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Norma Dean Holcomb Thompson; siblings, Bill Gene Thompson and Loyce McLeroy.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 31, 2022 in Salisbury National Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Pastor Sam Harvey officiating. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rebecca Owens (Daniel), Carla Tilly (Perry), and Christy Miller (Larry), all of Lexington; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two on the way.
