Gladys Everhart Hedrick

August 23, 1924 — January 19, 2020

Gladys Everhart Hedrick, 95, of Lexington passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Second Reformed United Church of Christ, 330 N Church St in Lexington.  Burial will follow at New Friendship UCC Cemetery. Preceding the service, the family will be receiving condolences during a visitation from 10-10:45am in the church parlor.

Mrs. Hedrick was a beloved Teaching Assistant in the Davidson County School System for over 30 years.  Her patience and love for children were evident to all who knew her.  She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to sew, especially for others.  She was a long-time member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ where she served her community and church as a Youth Fellowship Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Wedding Director, and Church Hostess.  Volunteerism was important to her as she could often be found serving at the church’s food pantry, making chicken pies for their bi-annual fundraiser, delivering meals on wheels, and visiting those who were no longer able to attend services.  In 2001, she was given the Pearle P. Leonard Award for Christian Service.  While at Piedmont Crossing she attended Sunday Vespers Services at Unity Place.

Mrs. Hedrick was born on August 23, 1924, the youngest of 9 siblings and the daughter of Hamilton L. and Fannie C. Everhart.  She was preceded in death by her first husband John Blake Crotts, their daughter Jane Crotts Purgason, their son Randall Blake Crotts, and her second husband Allen William Hedrick, Sr.

She is survived by her granddaughters Becky Purgason Alexiou (Denny) of High Point and Mary Purgason of Winston-Salem; great-grandchildren Daisha, Caroline, Dawn, and Atlas; sister-in-law Margot Everhart of Lexington; daughter-in-law Denice Crotts of Florida; and last but not least many special nieces and nephews who have loved and supported their Aunt Gladys – and whom she loved dearly.

Memorial contributions may be made to Second Reformed United Church of Christ 330 N. Church Street Lexington, NC 27292
