Gladys Jordan Johnson

August 5, 1927 — September 23, 2017

Gladys Jordan Johnson, age 90 of Piedmont Crossing formerly of Kildee Drive, Lexington passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Piedmont Crossing.   A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church Wednesday, September 27, 2017 with Rev. Doug Rowe officiating. The family will greet friends at 2:00 pm prior to the service in the church parlor.   Gladys was born August 5, 1927 to James M. and Odessa A. Jordan. Gladys was a graduate of Lexington High School, Ashmore Business College and attended Pfeiffer Junior College and a member of Tau Betta Kappa. Gladys had a long career working as a secretary, office manager and business manager for several companies, including Mutual Savings and Loan as well as Davis Chevrolet in Lexington. Gladys was a member of First United Methodist Church, Spruill Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women and Joy Club; also a member of Lexington Business and Professional Women, life member of West Lexington Lions Club, volunteered with Lexington Memorial Hospital, Meals on Wheels and Hospice of Davidson County. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Jack Johnson in 2005; half-sister, Beatrice Hinkle; half-brothers, Dave Jordan, Sid Jordan, Ottis Jordan and Hubert Jordan   Surviving are her daughters, Amy Johnson Nance (Brian) of Lexington, Joy Johnson Hamlin (Charles) of High Point; son, Larry Johnson ( Barbara) of Liberty; grandchildren, Eric Johnson (Sofia) and Gabrielle Sheffield (Josh); great-grandchildren, Joshua and Titus Sheffield and a sister, Theola Essick.   The family would like to thank the staffs at Piedmont Crossing and Hospice of Davidson County for their loving care of Gladys and her family.   In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1697, Lexington, NC  27293.
