Glenda Smith Walters, 70, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026.

Born on January 27, 1956, in Davidson County, North Carolina, Glenda was the daughter of the late B. Glenn Smith and Carole Biesecker Lemon. She dedicated many years of service working with Liberty Home Health Care, where she compassionately cared for others and made a lasting difference in the lives of her patients and colleagues. 

Glenda Smith Walters has written travel and human interests articles for Direct Pathways of High Point, NC. The Dispatch of Lexington, NC along with writing a column for the Thomasville Times of Thomasville, NC. She has been blessed with the best of both worlds. She wrote a book called “This Place That I Go”which includes stories on angels, near-death experiences, blessings and answered prayers, visions and dreams. Glenda interviewed Hospice patients and families, along with people from all walks of life. Glenda Smith Walters is a native of Lexington, North Carolina and has worked within the realm of Hospice care for over 14 years. Glenda has written human interest and travel articles for numerous publications. Her background includes working in product development for the furniture industry, where she worked on a project at the Mission Ranch Resort in Carmel, California with actor Clint Eastwood. After a career, spanning over fifteen years within the furniture industry, Glenda decided to go in another direction... one of service to others. After reading an article about Hospice in Guidepost, she became a Hospice patient volunteer. Having volunteered for a year with Hospice of Davidson County, she became their volunteer coordinator and later held the title of the Director of Fund Development and Communications. Glenda continued to work within a hospice setting, along with pursuing a career in writing.

Glenda was a faithful member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, where she found strength in her faith and enjoyed fellowship with her church family. In recent years she attended Lexington Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by loved family members who welcomed her into eternal rest.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sweetheart, Rick Harville, her brother, Scott C. Smith, and her sister, Karen S. Brown, her nieces, Jorja Smith and Emily Brown, along with extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.

A service will be held Monday May 11, 2026, at 2PM, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 200 Cotton Grove Road, Lexington, with Pastor Mason Todd and Pastor Rodney Merrill officiating, burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive family and friends from one hour prior to the service from 1-2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Davidson County Animal Shelter, 490 Glendale Rd Lexington, NC 27292, or Hospice of Davidson County 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.

Glenda will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and dedication to caring for others. She was a compassionate lover of animals, especially cats and horses. Loving to entertain she had a wide circle of friends across many states.
