Glenn Jacob Bemisderfer (Mr. B), age 79 of Huntington Woods Dr., Welcome Community died Monday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after an illness of 5 weeks
Mr. Bemisderfer was born in Greencastle PA on September 19, 1926 to Jacob Gearhart Bemisderfer and Kathryn Brumbaugh Bemisderfer. He graduated with a BS degree from Limestone College in Gaffney, SC and a Masters degree from the University of Virginia. Before retirement he was a teacher at North Davidson High School, where he was fondly known as “Mr. B” and beloved by three decades of Physics and Advanced Science students. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the Welcome Lions Club. At First Baptist Church of Welcome he was a long-time choir director. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Teressa Hutchins.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Huskey Bemisderfer of the home, sons William (Bill) Bemisderfer and wife Vicki of Rocky Mount, NC and Bruce Bemisderfer and wife Carol Cartwright of Columbia, TN, daughters, Becky Gilmore and husband Roger of Middleburg, VA; Elaine Canterbury and husband Nathan of Lexington. 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He also is survived by brothers, Kenneth Bemisderfer and Jacob Bemisderfer both of Greencastle, PA and sisters Betty Jane Scholtz of Peru, IN; Ruby Pinkerton of Dougsboro, VA; Virginia Lawson of Algonquin, IL; Joanne Mason of Greer, SC and Joy Ayers of Raleigh, NC
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 18 at First Baptist Church in Welcome where he was a member conducted by Rev. Mark Blair. Burial will follow with military honors at the First Baptist Church Cemetery
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME LEXINGTON and other times at the home on Huntington Woods Dr.
