Grace Futrell

November 6, 1918 — March 20, 2011

Grace Foster Futrell, 92, formerly of Hillside Drive, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Bermuda Commons in Advance after declining health. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. John Smith. A private burial will be held at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service. Mrs. Futrell will lie in state at Davidson Funeral Home. Mrs. Futrell was born Nov. 6, 1918, in Davidson County to John Phillip Foster and Lelia Belle Shuler Foster. She attended Young’s School of Cosmetology and operated House of Charm for many years. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Susannah Wesley Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. Her husband, James William “Bill” Futrell, preceded her in death May 30, 1999, as well as her brothers, Roscoe Foster, John Foster and Irvin Foster, and her sisters, Lenora Sowers and Mamie Harris. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Dunlow and husband Pete of Advance; her sister, Edna Barnes; her grandchildren, Diana Stockholm and husband John of Zionsville, Ind., and Shelia Dunlow of San Pueblo, Calif.; and her great-grandchildren, Eric Stockholm, Adam Stockholm, Sara Grace Stockholm and Eloise Dunlow-Hutchings. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
