Grady H. Byerly, 89, of Brian Center Nursing Home, formerly of Leonard Road, died Monday, June 18, at the nursing home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by Preacher Clyde Akers. Burial will follow at National Cemetery, Salisbury, with military graveside rites.
Mr. Byerly was born in Davidson County on March 20, 1918, to William Henderson Byerly and Sallie J. Essick. He served in the US Army during World War II, was a carpenter for Dixie Furniture and attended Leonard Road Baptist Church. He was married to Thelma Thompson Byerly who preceded him in death in 1953. His daughters Helen Brindle, Lois Garner; stepdaughters, Peggy Hill and Dorothy Collins also preceded him in death.
Surviving are son, Robert Glen Byerly of Lexington; stepson, Elwood Craver of Lexington; grandchildren, Jerry Brindle Jr., Susan Long, Thelma Brindle, Tammy Wahl, Jonathan Brindle, and Linda Hill; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, and special friends, Geneva Hill, Tina Hughes and Kera Brindle, all of Lexington.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at 415 Hillside Drive, Lexington.
