Grady Lee Leonard, age 95, of Lexington passed away Saturday (March 5, 2011). Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday (March 8, 2011) at Shiloh United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sheila Bishop and Rev. Benny Clodfelter officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday and at other times at the home.
Grady was born in Davidson County, December 30, 1915 to Harper Alexander Leonard and Ida Lou Waitman Leonard. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, where for many years he was a choir member, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He was a retired employee of Period Furniture House where he worked for over thirty years. He was on the board of Piedmont Telephone for 43 years and had served as President. He was President of the Carolina-Virginia Telephone Membership Association from 1978-1980. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in World War II. Locally, he was a member of American Legion Post 162, where he served as finance officer for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Carroll Lee Leonard; sisters, Bertha Koonts, Effie Foard, Bulah Everhart, Pauline Leonard and Veigh Hobbs and brothers, Curtis Leonard and Jones Leonard.
Mr. Leonard is survived by his wife of 72 years, Naomi Swicegood Leonard; two sons, Gary Leonard and wife Pat of Oriental, NC and Ronald Leonard and wife Lynne of Lexington; daughter-in-law; Becky C. Leonard of Lexington; grandchildren, Greg Leonard and wife Anna of Oriental, Korie Woolgar and husband Andy of Winston Salem, Eric Leonard and wife Robin of Raleigh, Sarah Kittner and husband Mike of Winston Salem and Jacob Leonard and girlfriend Sheena Cooper of Lexington.
