Grady Eugene “Gene” Wilson, 83, of Lakeshore Lane, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at his home.
A graveside service with military rites by VFW Post 3074 will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2010, at Lexington City Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Joe Coltrane officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Wilson was born April 28, 1927, in Davidson County, to Grady Lindo Wilson and Ethel Cope Wilson. He was a dispatcher for the City of Lexington serving 11 years with the City of Lexington Police Department. Mr. Wilson served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of VFW Post 3074 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Wilson Rex.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Hartwell Wilson of the home; son, Larry Wilson and wife, Becky Craver Wilson, of Lexington; daughter, Barbara Wilson Lanning and husband, Stan, of Lexington; three grandchildren, Mike Lanning, Jodi Lanning, and Glenn Eugene Wilson; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Wilson of Wilmington.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
