Gregory Lee Cannon was born on April 4, 1959 in Abilene, Texas to Lester Cannon and Sandra. This is where his father was stationed with the USAF. Shortly after they were transferred to Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico. Later the family moved to Lexington, NC where he graduated from East Davidson High School. He loved his Harley and race cars.
He joined the Navy in May 1981 and was a radioman on a submarine. He was stationed in Charleston, SC, Kingsland, GA and Norfolk, VA. In the meantime, he married and had two beautiful daughters. Andrea and Heather. Greg served 20 years in the Navy and retired to Lexington, NC. He worked various jobs before he started driving 18 wheelers. He drove to California and back for many years. He passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025 due to colon cancer and he believes he got cancer from conditions from the first sub, the USS Nathan Hale that he served on. Surviving is his mother and stepfather Sandra and Ray Whitson. Father Lester Cannon. Daughters Andrea Camper and her sons, Zander, Cayden and Carsen. Heather (John) Antignano and their children Max and Micheal. Brother Keith (Myra) Cannon. Their children Joseph (Jessica) Cannon. Their child Chloe. Jennifer (Michael) Farmer. The mother of his children Christi (Jeff) White. His aunts Velma Agner, Nelda (Benny) Freeze, and Lavern Trexler. Uncles are Wayne (Susan) Trexler, Leon (Ramona) Trexler. Numerous cousins but especially Rodney Agner and Karne Cauble who were playmates growing up. Also Martin (Diane) Whitson and their children Alicia and Martin. Jason (Rebecca) Whitson. Greg was cremated. There will be a memorial service on November 30, 2025 at Oak Grove UMC in China Grove at 3:00 pm.
