Grover Harding Weaver, 88 of Welcome passed away Tuesday, January 13,2009 at Alston Brook Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 16, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Pillsbury and Rev. Ted Craddock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
Mr. Weaver was born in Davidson County November 16,1920 to Rome Lee and Lettie Isabel Leonard Weaver. He retired in maintenance with RJR Tobacco Company, served in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific and the invasion Okinawa and a life member of VFW Post 9010. He was a charter member of the World War II Memorial Monument Society, and the Welcome Fire Department. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church and the North Carolina State
Fireman's Association. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Grady Hinkle,Fred and John Henry Weaver and one sister Alma Elaine Linville.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lois Leonard Weaver of the home; one son, Kent Weaver of Welcome; one daughter,Kay Wagner and her husband Bill of Welcome; one brother, Ray Von Weaver and wife Treavie of Welcome; two grandchildren,Lyle Wagner and wife Jeannie of Welcome and Kendra Weaver of Winston Salem.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel.
