Guy Lee Kerley, Jr, 80, of Lexington, passed away on June 17, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center. Guy was born February 12,1944 in Rockingham County to Guy Lee Kerley, Sr and Modena Fern Leonard who preceded him in death.
Freshly graduated from Appalachian State Teacher’s College in 1966 with a degree in music, Guy moved to Lexington with his new bride Billie Ann Bollinger Kerley to be the band director at Lexington’s brand-new middle school. After a few years he moved up to direct the band at Lexington Senior High School. Shortly thereafter, Guy and Billie joined the Presbyterian Church where he became choir director. After teaching a number of years, Guy began a career in sales, first at Prudential Insurance Company, then, auto sales at Jerry Hunt and Davis Chevrolet. For a period of time, he was a Davidson County box site attendant. Guy’s remaining years were spent at Ace Lanier Hardware in sales. Several things Guy enjoyed were fly fishing, camping, reading, and his canine pets over the years, Yogi, Baby and Jingles.
Guy is survived by his beloved wife Billie of the home. Last August, they celebrated 57 years of marriage and a happy life in Lexington.
Over the years, Guy and Billie were blessed with two daughters Christie Beighley Brookshire (Christopher) of Sophia and Catherine “Beth” Bender (Gregory) of Asheboro and four grandchildren, Ariel Elizabeth Bratz, Samuel “Sammy” Teague Bender, Max Doutt Bender and Raena Doutt Bender, sister, Linda Katherine Goodnite of Pasadena, Maryland.
Guy's life will be honored in a funeral service at 3:00pm on Saturday, June 22, at First Presbyterian Church, Lexington, NC, officiated by Rev. Jon Martin. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00-3:00PM in the church Fellowship Hall. Interment will follow at Lexington City Cemetery.
Memorials in Guy’s honor may be made to Lexington City Schools music program or American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023. His memory will be held dear by all who knew him.
