Harold "Butch" Wilson Barnes Jr.

June 26, 1951 — December 25, 2024

Harold “Butch” Wilson Barnes Jr, 73, of Davidson County, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, surrounded by his family. Butch was born on June 26, 1951, in Lexington, to Vonnette Lambeth Barnes and the late Harold Wilson Barnes, Sr. He grew up in Lexington, NC working the family farm, fishing with his dad, and running around with his sister and cousins. He attended Central Davidson High School.

He worked for ITT for 15 years, and during this time enlisted in the Army Reserve as a Green Beret in the 11th Special Forces Airborne Unit. Throughout his 16 years of service, he owned and operated Southern Electrical Xcellence. During Operation Desert Storm, he actively supported his unit in Fort Bragg. Upon his honorable discharge, he proudly earned his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University.

Butch had many joys in life, some being to read, listen to music, shoot guns, and work with his vast collection of tools. A great joy was being involved in his church. Butch was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since the 1970’s and no matter where he was, he made sure to be part of the local church, the last being the Zebulon Ward. He was an ordained priest, deacon, and elder, and was given the Certificate of Honorable Release with full appreciation for devoted service.

His greatest joy, however, was his family. Butch was an exceptional son and would do anything for his “little” mama. She was a grand influence on his life, and he was her caregiver for many years. His devotion was not only to his mama, but also his children. Being present and around his children and grandchildren was an important part of his life, and he made it a point for them to know how loved and cherished they were.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Left to carry on his legacy are his daughters, Jennifer Shane Barnes (William Smith) and Casandra “Sandi” Citarrella; sons, Harold “Tres” W. Barnes III, Jonathan A. Barnes, and Matthew E. Scott; mother, Vonnette Barnes; sister, Christina Barnes Thomas; and grandchildren, Maya E. Barnes, Jillian R. Citarrella, and Zoe Smith. He is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and many caring friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday evening, January 2, 2025, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at the Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel, with Elder David Kleeberg officiating, with burial following at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

For those wishing to honor his memory with a donation, please contribute in his name to the Disabled American Veterans, https://www.dav.org/

His light will shine through all those left to cherish his memory.
