Harold “Butch” Joseph Hommel Jr, 72, of St. Charles, KY and formerly of Cleveland, OH, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Butch was born on July 6, 1952 in Cleveland, OH to the late Harold Joseph Hommel Sr. and Virginia Hawes Hommel.
Butch worked in Steel Manufacturing prior to his retirement. He had a special place in his heart for animals and wildlife. He was known to rescue and care for all kinds of wild animals, including squirrels, raccoons, snakes, and opossum. He was especially fond of his pet turtle that has been a companion for over 30 years. He was a master mechanic and loved working on cars and even boats. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and drag racing his car “Butch’s Toy.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 40 years, Barb York Hommel. He recently rekindled a lost love with Lily Hommel Cantrell.
Those left to cherish his memory include the love of his life, Lily Cantrell, son, Terry (Bethany) Hommel; daughter, Cindy (John) Heer; grandchildren, Trey Hommel, Natasha (Scott) Wells, Brian Major, Devan Rice, Jacob O’ Quin, Joshua O’ Quin, Allyiah O’ Quin and Chloe O’ Quin; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Caden, Ella, and Mason; brother, David (Mary) Hommel; sisters, Bunny Hommel, Chris (Pat) Bethke, Kathy Mitchell, Penny (Pete) McDonough, and Sue Bernsetter; step-sons, Gary York and David (Keli) York, and step-grandchildren, Gabriel (Mackenzie) York and Ryan York.
