Harold Clinton Gardner, 75, a resident of Midway, passed away July 30, 2021 at his home. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 11:00AM at New Friendship Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Chris Byrne. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
Harold was born March 11, 1946 in Bedford County, Virginia to Thomas Clinton Gardner and Eula Bishop Gardner. His parents preceded him in death. Harold grew up in Martinsville, Virginia and proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam Conflict with the 176 th Assault Helicoptor Unit in 1967-1968. He was very patrotic and loved his country. He was an active member of New Friendship Baptist Church, serving on various committees and truly enjoyed the friendship he had with the members of his Sunday school class. He retired from Canplast of America.
If you knew Harold, you loved him, but he also loved you. He was a devoted husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He was humble, sweet, appreciative and always loved to strike up a good conversation. Harold enjoyed spending time outside keeping his yard emaculate and his truck spotless. Harold loved to travel with this family and attend Appalachian State Football games.
Harold and his wife, Susie Rizer Gardner were married on March 26, 1966 in Martinsville, VA. He is survived by his wife of the home: and a daughter, Jennifer Gardner Leonard (Brannon) of Arcadia, a son, Harold Clayton Gardner (Angy) of Welcome. Also surviving are two brothers, Harless Davis Gardner (Joanne) of Martinsville, Va and Thomas Lee Gardner of Lexington, and many nieces and nephews, as well as several great nieces and nephews who he enjoyed spending time with. He is survived by his only grandchild, Reece Bishop Leonard. Reece was the joy of his life. Paw Paw always wanted to be at any activity, in which Reece was participating, be it church, school or sports. Paw Paw also had many granddogs he enjoyed loving on and giving them treats. We feel a huge loss with his passing, but we know he’s in a better place and we will see him again soon.
Burial at the church cementary will be with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the; New Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund, 4258 Old Lexington Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
