Harold Dean Johnson, 70, of Bethesda Road, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, 1002 East Holly Grove Road, Lexington, with the Rev. Darrell Sluder officiating. Military graveside service conducted by VFW Post 3074. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall at Mt. Tabor and other times at the home.
Mr. Johnson was born March 23, 1940, in Davidson County to Ivy Clarence Johnson and Doris Foster Johnson. He was a former electrician and had served in the U.S. Marines. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3074 and of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sons, Ricky Wayne Johnson and Timothy Clarence Johnson; daughter, Lisa Johnson Smith; brother, Ivy Clarence Johnson Jr.; sister, Shirley Hammons; granddaughter, Tiffany Elise Smith; and great-granddaughter, Scarlette Elizabeth Seaton.
Surviving are longtime companion, Rita Owens; sons, Anthony Dean Johnson and wife, Dianne Renea of Austell, Ga., Michael Dean Johnson, Tommy Ray Johnson, both of Welcome; Jimmy C. Johnson and wife, Vicky, of Winston-Salem; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, J.C. Johnson and wife, Judy, of Welcome; and sisters, Irene Myers and husband, Carl, of Linwood, Mary Williams and husband, Johnny, of Tyro, and Barbara Edwards of Elizabethton, Tn.
