Mr. Harold Gene McNeill, 81, of Ridgecrest Drive, died Tuesday, February 03, at Abbotts Creek Center.
A memorial service will be 3pm Saturday, February 7 at First Baptist Church, by the Revs. Dr. Ray Howell III and Tommy Wilson. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30pm Saturday in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
Mr. McNeill was born January 23, 1934 in Moore County to Leonard and Nannie Elizabeth Ritter McNeill. He was a 1959 graduate of Pfeiffer College and retired as general manager and vice president of Rock Tenn, formerly Stone Container. He received a coporate chairman’s award in 2002. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and a member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School class.
Long active in the community, Harold served on the Board of the Directors of Lexington Memorial Hospital for 20 years, including several years as Chairman. He was a director of the Industrial Management Club, served on the boards of Davidson County Community College, Davidson Medical Ministries, and the city board of BB&T. He had served on the boards of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, The Dutch Club, Sapona Country Club, where he was a charter member, Lexington Senior High Athletic Foundation and the Lexington YMCA. He was a former finance committee member at Pfieffer College.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Henderson McNeill of the home; his son, Greg McNeill and wife, Wendy, of Orlando, FL; his daughter, Tanya Leonard and husband, Robert of Lexington; his brother, Alan McNeill and wife, Barbara, of Asheboro; his sister, Elizabeth Hussey and husband, Farrell, of Asheboro; and his grandchildren, Matthew Leonard and wife, Valerie, Jeremy Leonard and wife, Ashley, David Leonard, Dillon McNeill, Cameron McNeill and Taylor McNeill.
