Harry Glenroy Grier, Jr., 91, of Lexington, North Carolina, left us peacefully on November 29, 2024.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m Tuesday, December 3rd at the First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
Harry was born on November 23, 1933, in Gastonia, North Carolina, to Harry Glenroy Grier, Sr. and Eleanor Kennedy Grier. He grew up in Gastonia, where his lifelong passion for woodworking began. He was an Eagle Scout and a 1952 graduate of Gastonia High School.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bryant, and his grandson Zachary (“Z”). He is survived by his wife Christa-Maria Ursula; his children Dedy Baker (husband Joseph), Niels Grier, Katja Mulligan (husband Tyler); his sister Eleanor Farmer; and his cousins, James M. Kennedy III and Kenneth R. Kennedy. He loved his grandchildren Andrew Berrier, Elise Berrier, Austin Berrier, Zachary (“Z”) Grier, Kathryn Grier, Conor Mulligan, Brinna Mulligan, and Trevor Mulligan.
Harry served in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he met Christa-Maria. They married in 1955 and returned to the States. Harry graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Furniture Manufacturing and Management and began his furniture career in a management position with Stanley Furniture Company in Virginia. He later moved his family to Lexington, North Carolina, where he served in management roles at several prominent local furniture companies.
In 1981, Harry and Christa-Maria founded The North Carolina Moulding Company. They took great pride in manufacturing custom picture frame moulding and providing livelihoods for over 50 employees. After 37 years of operation, Harry and Christa-Maria sold the company and retired.
