Harry Lee Lemon Jr., 88 of Lexington, passed away on September 14, 2024, at Abbotts Creek Care in Lexington.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 29 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Lexington with the Rev. Mason Todd officiating. The family will greet friends before the service in the sanctuary at 1:30.
Harry was born August 31, 1936, in Beckley West Virginia, to Harry Lee Lemon Sr. and Alice Moser Lemon. Harry spent his early years in Beckley and moved with his family to Newton, North Carolina where he graduated from high school. He joined the US Air Force and served in several US locations and in England. He later graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College where he majored in history and education. Harry taught school for several years then worked for the NC State Department of Transportation-Division of Motor Vehicles in the school bus and traffic safety sections, supporting Lexington City and Davidson County school systems, retiring in 1998. In retirement, Harry enjoyed traveling with his cherished wife, Carole, especially to the coast and mountains where they had a vacation home in Murphy. He loved to be outdoors, hiking camping, and fishing; he particularly enjoyed fishing trips with his work buddies.
Harry was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a devoted member of the church, serving as a Deacon, Elder, and Treasurer. He also taught Sunday School for many years at the Brian Center Nursing Care in Lexington. As a veteran of the US Air Force, he was a member of the VFW Post 3074, the American Legion Post 8, and the Amvets. His passions were his faith, church, family, and especially his grandchildren. He will always be missed by his loving family.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Carole Biesecker Lemon of the home, sons, Harry Lee Lemon III (Jude) of Eagleville, Tennessee; Scott Alexander (Mary Kay) of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter, Caroline Bunce (Norman) of Raleigh, North Carolina; stepchildren, Glenda Smith Walters, Scott C. Smith, and Karen Smith Brown, all of Lexington; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and sister, Virginia Shackelford of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
