Harry Ernest Michael, 89 of Rockway Drive Lexington, died Wednesday September 2, 2009 at Alston Brook Nursing Home after 2 ½ years of declining health and 12 days critical illness. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at Paul’s Chapel United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dave Ambroso officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Michael was born in Davidson County on August 28, 1920 to Ernest Edgar Michael and Effie Temple Michael. In 1950 he founded Michael Plumbing Company and was former owner of Donna Lane Mfg. He was a charter member of Paul’s Chapel United Church of Christ where he served as an Elder and was also Chairman of the building committee. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII and was a past member of the West Lexington Lions Club and a member of the NC Cattleman Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James and Cleveland Michael and sisters, Arlene Sink, Mary Shoaf and Inez Shoaf.
Surviving are his wife Mary Frances Shoaf Michael of the home, sons Don Michael and Darrell Michael and wife Patsy, and daughter, Jane Worley all of Lexington, six grandchildren Angela Reiter and husband Gerald, Michael Worley, Deborah Epley and husband Alan, Robert Michael and wife Tiffany, Donna King and husband Dr. Michael King, and D. Bruce Michael, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and his brother Hoy Lee Michael.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Parlor at Paul’s Chapel United Church of Christ and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Paul’s Chapel UCC Building Fund, 2791 West Center St. Ext. Lexington, NC 27295 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
