Harry Spangle, Jr.

Harry L. Spangle Jr., 90, of Riverview Boulevard, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at VA Medical Hospice Unit, Salisbury. A graveside service will be at noon Saturday in Lexington City Cemetery by Father Al Gondek. There will be no public visitation. Mr. Spangle was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Columbian County, Ohio, to Harry Lacurgus Spangle Sr. and Rebecca Patty Spangle. Harry was a graduate of Ventura College, Ventura, Calif., and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. He was a retired director of operations of North American Phillips in New York and later worked for Kiger Security. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, and was a life member of the VFW Post 3074 and American Legion Post 8. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Patricia Ann Haggerty Spangle, in 1996; and son Leonard Spangle. Surviving are sons Gerald Spangle of Manassas, Va., and Tom Spangle of Lexington; a daughter, Susan Gowin of Lexington; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
