Hattie Lanier Snellings

Hattie Ree Lanier Snellings passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Hinkle Hospice House. There will be no funeral or visitation. She was born on December 21, 1928, in Davidson County to Zeb Wade (Sam) and Clara Delphine Hinkle Lanier. Hattie grew up in Tyro and graduated from Tyro High School in 1945. Her favorite place of employment was with the Davidson County Public Library in Lexington. Hattie married John Dever Snellings in 1948. They were happily married for 68 years. John was born on May 7, 1927, and passed on January 14, 2014. Hattie was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Tyro and a Lifetime Member of NC Lutheran Women. She enjoyed her hobby of genealogy. She spent many days researching her ancestors and her husband’s ancestors in Virginia and Georgia and enjoying the library genealogy department. Hattie was preceded in death by spouse John D. Snellings and the following brothers and sisters: Hussie Lee Lanier b. Dec. 21, 1913 – d. Mar. 26, 1915 Robert Wade Lanier b. Oct. 28, 1916 – d. Nov. 8, 1994/ Spouse Margaret Pressley George Ransom Lanier b. Feb. 27, 1921 – d. May 10, 1982/ Spouse Bessie Michael Phillip Odell Lanier b. Jun. 19, 1924 – d. Sept. 8, 1998/ Spouse Christine (Kit) Auman Paul DeVon Lanier b. Aug. 20, 1926 – d. Oct. 26, 1928 Ethel Mae Lanier Snellings b. Jan. 16, 1931 – d. Jan. 10, 2014/ Spouse William Paul (Buck) Snellings Hattie is survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Any memorial donations are to be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4299 S NC Hwy, Lexington, NC 27295 or the Davidson County Public Library in Tyro, 246 Tyro School Road, Lexington, NC 27295.
