Hazel Walser Hanes, age 99 of Lexington Health Care, formerly of North NC Highway 150, Lexington passed away Tuesday (February 1, 2011) at Hinkle Hospice House. Funeral service will be held 4:00 pm Friday (February 4, 2011) at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Rev. Sheila Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday and at other times at the home of her daughter; Virginia Weisner, 247 Virginia Dare Drive, Lexington.
Mrs. Hanes was born in Davidson County, October 4, 1911 to Venus Walser and Ollie Pickett Walser. She was a retired employee of Erlanger Mills and the oldest member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Herman Hanes, Sr.; three sons, J. H. “Jay” Hanes, Jr., Roy Hanes and Jim Hanes; a grandson, Mike Hanes; a great-grandson, Thomas Freeman, Jr.; and by two sisters and three brothers; and daughter in law, Linda Everhart Hanes.
Surviving are; one daughter, Virginia Hanes Weisner of Lexington; one son, William Hanes and wife Sylvia of Lexington; 17 grandchildren, Kaye Moorefield, Jane Freeman, Penny Canady, Donna Duggins, Avery Walker, Steve Walker, Robyn Bruff, Tim Hanes, Mona Nims, Ginger Davis, Tracey Hanes, Heather Hanes, Terry Hanes, Tina Essick, Todd Hanes, Tammy Michael and Russ Essick; 21 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; one sister, Myrtle Hege of Lexington; daughter in laws, Linda Walker Hanes and Joanne Hanes of Midway and Betty Hanes of Lexington..
