Helen Maxine Brooks Dillon 88, a resident of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at Hinkle Hospice House with her family by her side. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM at Oak Forest United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 7th, 2016 with Rev. Darren Alexander and Rev. Dwight Cartner officiating with a private burial at the church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Family Life Center and other times at the home of her son John. She was born in High Point, NC on July 28, 1928 to the late Robert W. and Jessie Bencini Brooks. She attended High Point city schools graduating from High Point High School with the class of 1947. Mrs. Dillon had worked at Adams-Millis Hosiery in the office and also at Pilot Life Ins. Co. as an IBM Key Punch operator. She became a homemaker when she retired in 1958. She was a charter member of Oak Forest United Methodist church where she served on various boards through the years. She was also a charter member of the United Methodist Women, and in years past was a member of the choir. She worked faithful on projects at church until her health began to fail. She was a former member of the North Davidson Extension Homemakers club for 47 years; and at the time of her death she was a member of North Davidson Friendship club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. On January 15, 1949 she married Robert F. Dillon, who preceded her in death and a son, Forrest Ray Dillon. Surviving is a son, John R. Dillon and wife Rhonda of Midway; three grand-daughters, Kelly Sherman, Jackie Pendleton, Meagan Ferrell; five great-grandchildren and a brother, Charles H. Brooks, wife Doris of Lexington; one God-Child, Shana Thomas and two dear special friends, Nancy Spence and husband Chris as well as a dear friend Wanell Wall. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Forest United Methodist Church, ATTN: Cemetery Fund, 11461 Old U.S. Highway 52, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
