Helen Brinkley Evans, 91, of West Center Street Extension, went peacefully to be at home with Jesus and her beloved PaPaw Fred on Monday morning, March 2, 2009, at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matthew Farabow and the Rev. Benny Clodfelter officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church cemetery.
Helen was born in Davidson County on Aug. 9, 1917, to Daniel Webster Brinkley and Beulah Conrad Brinkley. She was a retired employee of Manhattan Shirt Company and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Madison Evans; three sisters, Virginia Leonard, Betty Wrenn, Mary Heitman; and two brothers, Robert Brinkley and Charles Brinkley.
Surviving are one son, Larry Evans of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren, Kristen Evans Dedmond and her husband, Dr. Brian Dedmond, of Lincolnton, and Michael Evans of Mt. Airy; two sisters, Ruth Greene of Lexington and Barbara Sumner of Jamestown; two brothers, D.W. Brinkley and Tommy Brinkley, both of Lexington; and a special caregiver and angel, Mary Stokes.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
