Helen Darr Leonard

Helen Afton Darr Morrow Leonard, age 88, of Pinewood Drive, Churchland community passed away Friday afternoon February 3, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday February 9, 2012 at Churchland Baptist Church with Rev. Ray N. Howell IV officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Leonard was born February 9, 1923 in Davidson County to William Adam Darr and Ila Potts Darr. She graduated from the N.C. Baptist Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a nurse and nurse supervisor at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Leonard retired from PPG Industries in Lexington as a nurse with the Medical Department. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Leonard; her sisters, Latta Fitzgerald and Ruth Barnes; two brothers Mock Darr and Raymond Darr, and granddaughter Christina (Dylan) Burcham. Surviving are, son Bobby Morrow of Lexington; daughter Vicki Bernhardt of Mocksville; granddaughter Katie Bernhardt Lane and husband Ernie and their daughter Riley Dylan Lane all of Pittsboro; brothers Lester Darr and wife Ann of Lexington, Carey Darr and wife Peggy of Welcome; and sister in law Bessie Darr of Reeds; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Churchland Baptist Church, 7516 S. NC Highway 150 Lexington, N.C. 27295.
