Helen Gibbs Philpott, 86, of Arbor Drive, Winston-Salem, formerly of Lexington, died Thursday, February 03, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, following a brief illness.
A private graveside will be held Saturday with Dr. Ray Howell 3rd and Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011, at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Mrs. Philpott was born March 12, 1924, in Davidson County, to Rev. Alfred Coke Gibbs and Myrtle Eliza Crabtree Gibbs. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Lexington, the Charity League, and Meals on Wheels. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Alvin Philpott Sr.
Surviving are sons, James Alvin Philpott Jr. and wife, Judy, of Kentucky and Benjamin Gibbs Philpott and wife, Deirdre, of Lexington; daughter, Martha Philpott King and husband, Tracy, of Durham; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Isabel Harrell and husband, Dr. James, of Elkin.
