Helen G. Hames Rogers, 98, of Brookstone Retirement Center, formerly of Broad Street, died Thursday, October 03, 2013, at the retirement center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ray N. Howell 3rd officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.
Mrs. Rogers was born July 20, 1915, in Davidson County, to Burl Lee Hames and Minnie Sinclair Freeman Hames. She was the first girl born in the Erlanger Village. She was retired from the Salem Book Store and later worked at Parkdale Mills. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she attended the Dorkis Sunday school class. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Gaston Rogers, who died May 2000; daughter, Elizabeth Sue Rogers Russell; brothers, Robert Hames and Archie Hames; and sisters, Verna Sue Daniel and Grace Williams.
Surviving are daughter, Helen “Judy” Rogers of Lexington; four granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; brother, Frank Hames of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
