Mrs. Helen Claire Finley Wright Young, 92 of Winston Salem formerly of Lexington died Monday November 1, 2010 in Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston Salem. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday November 5, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church with the Dr. Lee Zehmer officiating. Burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service in the First Presbyterian Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Young was born September 2, 1918 in Laurens SC to John Lee and Margaret Martin Finley. She was adopted at age two by Elizabeth Martin Wright. She was a 1939 graduate of Shorter College in Rome, GA where she was elected May Queen. She was a member of Lexington Charity League. Mrs. Young married Julius Smith Young on October 25, 1941 who preceded her in death on May 25, 2001. Her siblings were John Paul Finley, Vernon Leon Finley, Griffin Alton Finley, Robert Coleman Finley, Thomas Smith Finley, Fred Funston Finley, Margaret Finley Weldon, Mildred Finley Cobb, and Virginia Finley Young. Surviving include a daughter Sydney Young Beck and husband Johnny, sons Julius Smith Young, Jr. and Charles Jeffrey Young and wife Lynn, nine grandchildren, Ashley Beck Gentry, Johnny Shelton Beck. Jr., Julius Smith Young, III, Jonathan Henry Young, Katherine Young McKenzie, Patrick Shepard Young, Anne Wright Young, Christopher Dalton Shaw, Jefferson Brame Shaw, four great grandchildren, Sydney Paxton Gentry, Davis Aidan Todd Beck, Rachel Blair Young and Julius Smith Young, IV. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, P. O. Box 586, Lexington, NC 27293, J. Smith Young YMCA, 119 W. 3rd Avenue. Lexington, NC 27292.
