Helene Byerly Kirkus, age 94, of Alston Brook Nursing Home, formerly of S. County Home Road, went home to be with her Saviour, on Sunday afternoon, Mother’s Day, at Alston Brook.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Sam Harvey,Terry Coats and Brother Ralph Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Helene was born in Davidson County, December 17, 1919, to Elmer Henderson and Claudia Beck Byerly. She was a homemaker an expert gardener and seamstress and was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Kirkus; a son Larry Kirkus; sisters, Ann Kirkus Shirley Rood and Wilton Miller; brothers, James, Robert and Charlie Byerly.
Surviving are daughters, Glenda Everhart (Jerry) and Diane Hazzard (Frank) both of Lexington;
Sons, Doyle Kirkus, of Lexington, Oscar Kirkus (Nancy) of Southmont, and Kenneth Kirkus (Brenda) of Lexington; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Mary Driver of Piedmont Crossing, and Betty Scott of Lexington; brother, Jack Byerly (Mary) of Lexington, a daughter-in-law; Lois Kirkus of Kingsport, Tenn; and a brother-in-law Dennis Miller.
