Herbert Francis Diefes, age 85, of Oakwood Drive, Lexington passed away Thursday evening (Sept. 8, 2011) at Alston Brook.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday (September 13, 2011) at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Lee Zehmer officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday.
Herbert was born in Krefeld, Germany April 4, 1926, to Jakob Heinrich Diefes and Caroline Rademacher Diefes. He was a retired Engineering Manager with Proctor and Schwartz with 42 years of service. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church; a member of Lexington Men of Song. He was a Life Master Bridge Player and was a master craftsman in woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Margaret Hinsdale Diefes, March 18, 2011; and a brother, Heinz Diefes.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Diefes and wife, Susan, of Lexington and Dr. Darryl J. Diefes and wife, Wanda, of Whiteville, NC; five grandchildren, Kristin, Alan, Katelyn, Hunter and Nathan; one sister, Hilda Bennetsen of Doylestown, PA; two brothers, Alfred Diefes and wife, Barbara, of Lilburn, GA and Gunther Diefes of Doylestown, PA.
