Hilda Ruth Mitchell Hayes of Lexington, NC, left this world for Heaven on October 2, 2026. She was deeply loved by her family and will be missed until we meet again.
She was born on February 11, 1931, in Alexander County, to the late Ramie Loid Mitchell and Mamie Lee Millsaps Mitchell.
Hilda graduated from Hiddenite High School in 1949 and attended Wilkesboro Beauty School where she became a licensed beautician. She was later employed by Davidson County Schools for many years before retiring in 2001. Hilda was a charter member of Testimonial Baptist Church of Thomasville, where she was an active member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class and Church Choir until her health would no longer allow her. She loved the Lord and was a humble prayer warrior on behalf of her family and loved ones. She was always thankful in every circumstance and delighted in life’s simple blessings like her family, her garden, and ice cream.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Walsh of Statesville, NC, two brothers, R.L. Mitchell of Stony Point, NC, and Solon Mitchell of Hiddenite, NC, and great granddaughter, Charley Segers of Sophia, NC.
Survivors include one son, Roy Michael Hayes of Greenville, SC, and one daughter, Cynthia Hayes Livengood and husband Greg of Thomasville, NC. Grandchildren include three grandsons, Luke Livengood and wife Jessica of Thomasville, NC, Rory Hayes of Greenville, TX, and Richard Hayes of Williamston, SC, and one granddaughter, Kristen Livengood Segers and husband Brian of Sophia, NC. Great grandchildren include great grandsons, Weston Livengood and Jackson Livengood, and great granddaughter, Eden Segers. Also surviving is her youngest sister, Rebecca Burke and husband Alvin Burke of Taylorsville, NC, a very special friend and neighbor, Rodney Heitman, and many special nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Chapel, Lexington, with Pastors Carl Sutton and Hoyt Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Rocky Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hiddenite, NC. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered for Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292, or Testimonial Baptist Church, 1679 Old US Hwy 29, Thomasville, NC 27360.
