H.L. “Doc” Hill, 83, of Center Church Road, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Hospice of Davidson County, Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington-Chapel with Dr. Stephen Pillsbury officiating. Burial will follow in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Hill was born April 18, 1926, in Davidson County, to Thurston Manie Hill and Ollie Jane Hill Hill. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church and Served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe with 3rd Squadron, First Platoon, E Company, 410 Regiment, 103rd Division, 7th Army. He was awarded three campaign ribbons: Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the combat infantry badge for outstanding service in combat. He was Chairman of the Board of Elections for 16 years and served 49 years on the Soil & Water Conservation committee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Parker Hill, who died Feb. 6, 2007; brothers, Clifford Early Hill and Ivan Vernon Hill; and sisters, Mary Hill Koontz, Thelma Hill Leonard, Inez Hill Craver, Euphorzine Hill Leonard, and Treva Hill Mock.
Surviving are sons, Robert Lynn Hill and wife Vickie, Thomas David Hill, daughter, Deborah Hill Ketner all of Welcome; grandchildren, Michelle Burton, Sarah Williams, Jennifer Brinkley, Jonathan Hill and Betsey Hill; great-grandchildren, Madison Williams, Amelia Brinkley, Lynlee Brinkley and Colby Williams; one sister, Tullia Hill Hoover of Lexington and a special friend, Jeanne Berrier Beck.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
